At the beginning of the Cretaceous period, fish took over the ocean \u2013 the end of cephalopod domination<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\"\"Seas in the Jurassic<\/a> were much different from now. They were dominated by cephalopods<\/a> related to squids<\/a> and cuttlefish<\/a>. Fish were much less abundant and diversified. Based on Jurassic otolith<\/a> and statolith assemblages of Poland, Lithuania and the United Kingdom (and published data) we have reconstructed the structure of nekton<\/a> community and the evolution of actinopterygians<\/a>. We found out that the great shift in nekton composition, when fish became the dominant group, took place around the boundary between the Late Jurassic and the Early Cretaceous.<\/p>
