While foraminifera with hard shells are relatively well known, softly-shelled ones, just like gromiids, have been largely ignored. Incorrectly, because as evidenced by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Environmental_DNA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">environmental DNA<\/a> research, they have great potential as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bioindicator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bioindicators<\/a> for environmental and paleoenvironmental studies.
